Insurgent by Veronica Roth

Image
Fighting for survival in a shattered world… the truth is her only hope. The thrillingly dark sequel to No. 1 New York Times bestseller, DIVERGENT. I have done bad things. I can’t take them back, and they are part of who I am. Tris has survived a brutal attack on her former home and family. But she has paid a terrible price. Wracked by grief and guilt, she becomes ever more reckless as she struggles to accept her new future. Yet if Tris wants to uncover the truth about her world, she must be stronger than ever… because more shocking choices and sacrifices lie ahead. MY REVIEW I have read this one twice and I admit it is just as great the second time I read it. I was hooked on this book both times and I know I will be reading it again and again in the future.  Insurgent is very well written and if you liked the first book I think you will like this one. Now I can't wait to read  Allegiant but it will have to wait a bit because I have a long list of books that needs t...

Divergent by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a ...

Discoveries can be dangerous. Discoveries can be deadly.  Nine months ago, Teagan Matthews' boyfriend disappeared and took her sense of stability with him. A new home, new job, and new friends are adding up to a beautiful summer... ...until a young girl's body shows up one night in town, wearing a pentagram necklace exactly like Teagan's. Now a guy looking remarkably like her missing boyfriend has arrived in Salem along with a mysterious stranger who may have some answers that Teagan has desperately been searching for. Teagan must now decide who to trust. It's a matter of life... and her death. MY REVIEW Discovery is a decent book but not one I would be reading again in the future. Don't get me wrong it is well written but just not one that I couldn't put down. This book is 170 pages so it isn't one that takes long to rea...

But what started as a whim has turned into an accidental---and very public---engagement announcement, leaving Layla O’Reilly fit to be tied. Under normal circumstances, Derek Murphy---rich snob and best friend of her cheating ex-boyfriend---would be the last person she’d want to date, much less marry. But the news of their upcoming nuptials has convinced a big client that Layla may be high-society enough to work for his agency---which could put her fledgling home-staging business in the black.Derek Murphy’s pronouncement at the wedding seemed crazy to Layla, but he’s loved her secretly for years, even when she was dating his best friend. He’s sure she’ll never forgive him for the way he hurt her back then. But maybe, just maybe, he can convince her. When Layla agrees to keep up their engagement farce until she’s landed her client, Derek couldn’t be happier. The race is on.For Layla it’s the cha...

The Girls' Guide to Dating Zombies by Lynn Messina Ebook review

Image
Hattie Cross knows what you're thinking: Zombie sex? Ewwwww. But she also knows that since a virus turned 99.9999 percent of human males into zombies, it's statistically impossible to meet—let alone date—the remaining 0.00001 percent. So she writes "The Girls' Guide to Dating Zombies" to help her fellow single women navigate the zombie-relationship waters. Her practical how-to impresses the CEO of the largest drug company in the world, and before she knows it, Hattie, a reporter for a downmarket tabloid that specializes in conspiracy theories, is sitting down with the woman who single-handedly invented the zombie-behavioral-modification market. Granted access to the inner sanctum of zombaceuticals, she meets an actual, living, breathing M-A-N. Now Hattie, the consummate professional, is acting like a single girl at the end of the twentieth century: self-conscious, klutzy and unable to form a coherent sentence without babbling. Worst of all, the human mal...

MY REVIEW I am surprised I actually really liked this book. Lately I haven't been enjoying these Harlequin novels but this one was very good. Sure it was predictable but I did enjoy it and I did it all in one evening. If you are looking for a easy romantic read I recommend this book. The Mythology department at prestigious Harvard University is tiny—and Mackenzie Duncan has just been selected as one of the lucky few. Her love for myths and legends is deep, but she never thought any of it could be real.  After being attacked by a large wolf while walking home alone, Mackenzie realizes something is not right. She heals quickly, has suddenly become super strong, and is experiencing mood swings that can't possibly be normal. The myths she's studying aren't myths at all. Werewolves are real, and she's one of them. Fear of what she is, and who she might hurt sends Mackenzie running from the life she’s worked hard to build–and straight into the arms of a handsome Were named Geoff and into the home of his pack. Living with her new pack takes the edge off her confusion and self-loathing, but the arrival of new pack members changes the dynamic, and tests Geoff and Mackenzie’s growing relationship.  The hardest part of being a werewolf is to have no contro...
