Written on my Heart by Cole Gibson *Review*

*I received a eARC of this book for my honest review*

It's been six months since Ashlyn Daniels was kicked out of her home. Six months since she stood up to her abusive stepfather and got a busted rib—and seeing all her things set ablaze in a backyard bonfire—for her trouble. Never going back. She doesn't need trouble...especially if trouble is tattoo artist Lane Garrett, who's six-feet-plus of tattooed hotness and a complete ass.

Lane has spent the last decade fighting to support his family. To protect them. There's no room for romance, even with a fragile (yet amusingly feisty) stunner...even if she somehow manages to invade his world and his heart.

But while some secrets are as visible as ink on the skin, others must remain hidden at all costs...

About Cole Gibson

I love writing, day-old chinese food, and my nail polish is always chipped. My YA novel, KATANA, will be released, spring 2012 by Flux. You can check out my website at www.colegibsen.com Word to your mother. (But seriously, you should call her. She worries.)

It took me a little while to get into this book but after a while I started getting into it more and enjoying it .It wasn't one that I just couldn't put down and not one that kept me up late at night but like I said I did enjoy it.

The story is realistic and not over the top. There are some steamy parts that aren't so explicit .

I give this 3 1/2 out of 5

Just One Lie (Just One Night #2) by Kyra Davis Review and Giveaway

*I received a eARC for my honest review*

In the instant international sensation Just One Night, sensible Kasie Fitzgerald unleashed her passions—and found herself—through an explosive affair. In Just One Lie, we meet Kasie’s wild and tortured sister, whose impulsivity and lack of self-control has set off a chain of events that changes her family forever.

Melody Fitzgerald is the opposite of the “perfect” daughter. The lead singer of an indie rock band, she is impulsive and creative, with a rebellious streak that both defines her and becomes her greatest enemy. Her lover, the enticing and unpredictable Ash, shares her free spirit and penchant for trouble. On the face of it, he seems to be her perfect match.

So why is she so drawn to her soft spoken, reliable drummer, Brad Witmer? How can a man who wears polo shirts and reads the financial section of the paper be of any interest to her at all? And why on earth does someone like that appear to be so captivated by her?

Before she knows it, Melody finds herself on a path of self-discovery, passion, and affairs of the heart. But will a dark secret from her past derail it all? Or will its exposure be the very thing that unburdens her heart and allows her to seek a future with the one man who loves her completely?

I really was struggling with this book at first because it wasn't the kind of book I was in the mood to read but a few days later I picked it up again and I read it all in one sitting.

I liked it better than the first one .Well written and I recommend this book.

I give this 4 out of 5

Smoke on the Water (Sisters of the Craft #3) by Lori Handeland *Review*

*I received a eARC copy of this book for my honest review*

Abandoned beneath a black willow tree on the banks of a northern Wisconsin creek, Willow Black spent her entire childhood in foster care. Her entire life she's had terrifying visions, and it is these visions that eventually land her in a psychiatric facility. And so Willow takes her meds and believes she is getting better. Until she meets a fellow patient who doesn't think she is crazy at all. She thinks Willow is a witch.

Willow's psychiatrist, Dr. Sebastian Crane, works hard to resist his feeling that he and Willow are destined to be together while also working to convince her that strange occurrences aren't the result of witchcraft… until he is thrown into the middle of a storm of supernatural events that can't be explained any other way…

I have read the other books in Sister of the Craft trilogy and I loved all of them but I think I love this one even more.

It is very well done and it sucked me in right away and I just couldn't put it down. Last night I was meaning to only read one chapter in bed but ended up reading 60% of it and finishing it at 12:30am. It was just so good.

If you are in the mood for a good Paranormal Romance , I highly recommend this one but first make sure you read the other books in this trilogy.  The first book is In the Air Tonight and the second book is Heat of the Moment.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars.

Smoke on the Water will be available August 4th in book stores near you and online.

Stirring Up Dirty By Kacey Hammell

STIRRING UP DIRTY Stirred by Love: Book 1 By Kacey Hammell Genre: Contemporary Erotic Romance ISBN: 978-1-77233-425-8 115 pages Available with Evernight Publishing Connected to DARE
Shaken and Stirred with a splash of dirty.
Candy Wilson arrives in St. Albert with one mission—to sign the next young, hot model to her modeling agency. She has no time for distractions and isn’t prepared for bartender Eric McKenna—the brother of her young client-to-be, Melissa. Eric challenges her on all counts, irritates her daily, and heats her body to boiling temperatures with just one touch. He’s hard to ignore and impossible to resist. Eric McKenna will be damned if his baby sister signs any contracts with Candy Wilson. No way in hell will he allow anyone to whisk Melissa off to a foreign country and lead her on a path that’s not right for her. And yet Candy pushes him further than he’s ever been before and drives him crazy. Eric can’t control his need for her or the desire to engage with her … on so many levels.   Excerpt © Kacey Hammell, 2015 “Hey there. It’s Eric, right?” He stalled and pivoted. Behind him was the one person he didn’t need to see right now. Melissa had talked about her enough that he knew all he needed to about her. And some shit he hadn’t cared to. “Ms. Wilson. Hope you’re enjoying our little town here.” She leaned against the wall of Abe’s Diner. “Little? This place is huge. I did enjoy some shopping this morning. The market a couple blocks over has some of the nicest things. I spent way more than I should.” He bet she did. From what she’d shown at the bar yesterday, she had more money than she really knew what to do with. In his opinion, she’d earned it all by letting it all hang out in fashion magazines for the world to see. Wearing skimpy outfits and bathing suits, which to him was too much to be taken seriously. She had the looks for sure, but he questioned her morals. “Well, I have to get back to the bar. Nice seeing you.” “Oh, you couldn’t spare a few minutes to have coffee with me? There are a few things I’d love to talk to you about.” She sidled closer to him, a smile lighting her face, her eyes twinkling like stars in the evening sky. He bet she was used to getting her way all the time. She brushed a hand over his bicep. “Just a quick coffee, and maybe a bite to eat?” The heat from her palm rushed through him. His fingers tingled and the urge to feel her warmth around him caught him off guard. He took a step back and shook his head. Damn her for getting to him. He needed to steer clear. She would do anything to take his sister away from here, even use her wiles to do it; he’d seen her flirting with Drew yesterday. “Sorry, I don’t have time to entertain you. You’ll have to find someone else to keep you occupied, Ms. Wilson. Have a good day.” Eric turned and strode away. He needed to keep a watchful eye on his sister and find a way to dig himself out of the hole he was in. Neither would be easy, though. Not with the distraction of Candy Wilson around to battle with.

Spider's Trap (Elemental Assassin Number 13) by Jennifer Estep*Review*

* I received a copy of this book for my honest review*

Keep your friends close but your enemies within stabbing distance.

One important lesson I’ve learned in the assassination business is that to be the best you have to roll with the punches. Now that I’m queen of Ashland’s underworld—by default, not by choice—a lot more punches are being thrown my way. But I suppose that’s the price of victory for taking down some of the underworld’s top dogs. Good thing I have my Ice and Stone magic to help me survive my volatile new position. Just when I think things are finally settling down, someone tries to murder me during a hush-hush underworld meeting. But the real surprise is how strangely familiar my shadowy assailant seems to be.

My job is to maintain order among killers, crooks, and thieves, and soon I’m embroiled in a bloody game where the ability to keep secrets could be the greatest superpower of all. My enemies have all sharpened their knives and laid their traps, waiting for me to fall. But this Spider weaves her own webs of death…

This is the 13th book in the Elemental Assassin series and I have to say it is just as good as well the other books in this series.  So very well done even though it is a little predictable but I still enjoyed it very much.

I admit this is the only series by Jennifer Estep I have read but I do have all of her other books in my very long to be read pile because I love her writing and I have the feeling I will most likely love all her other books. I know I will be getting the next book in this series as soon as it comes out, which is espected to be out February 2016.

I highly recommend Spider's Trap.  You don't really need to start from the first book .

I give this 5 out of 5,

Spider's Trap will be available in online and in book stores near you on July 28th 2015.

The Romanov Sisters: The Lost Lives of the Daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra by Helen Rappaport *Review*

* I received a paperback copy of this book for my honest review*

They were the Princess Dianas of their day—perhaps the most photographed and talked about young royals of the early twentieth century. The four captivating Russian Grand Duchesses—Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia Romanov—were much admired for their happy dispositions, their looks, the clothes they wore and their privileged lifestyle.

Over the years, the story of the four Romanov sisters and their tragic end in a basement at Ekaterinburg in 1918 has clouded our view of them, leading to a mass of sentimental and idealized hagiography. With this treasure trove of diaries and letters from the grand duchesses to their friends and family, we learn that they were intelligent, sensitive and perceptive witnesses to the dark turmoil within their immediate family and the ominous approach of the Russian Revolution, the nightmare that would sweep their world away, and them along with it.

You all might have noticed that I don't often read non fiction because not many I find interesting this really was interesting to me.

It is very well written and I enjoyed the writing very much. I love that there are photos.

I had heard of the Romanovs but I didn't really know much about them and I am one who always want to learn new things so this book was very interesting to me.  It is a eye opener as to how they lived (and died) . I was hooked into this non-fiction from the very beginning.

I think I will be adding more of  Helen Rappaport's book in my long list of books I want to read.

If you are into non fiction like this you will most likely enjoy it as much I did.

I give this 5 out of 5.

If you would like to purchase this book it is now available online and in book stores near you.

Speaking in Bones (Temperance Brennan #18) by Kathy Reichs *Review*

* I received a eARC of this book for my honest review*

For every case Temperence Brennance has solved, there remain innumerable unidentified bodies in her lab. Information on some of these is available online, where amateur sleuths sometimes take a stab at solving cases. One day, Tempe gets a call from Hazel “Lucky” Strike, a web sleuth who believes she’s successfully connected a body in Tempe’s lab to a missing persons report on an eighteen-year-old named Cora Teague. Since the bones in her lab do seem to match Cora’s medical records, Tempe looks into the case, returning to the spot where the bones were originally found. What seems at first to be an isolated tragedy takes on a more sinister cast as Tempe uncovers two more sets of bones nearby. When she then learns that the area is known as a viewing point for a famous unexplained light phenomenon with significance for a local cult, Tempe’s suspicious turn to murder by ritual sacrifice—a theory thrown into question when Hazel herself turns up dead. Still reeling from her mother’s diagnosis and the shock of Andrew Ryan’s potentially life-change proposal, Tempe races to solve the murders before the body count climbs further.

Well I used to read Kathy Reichs books and I have loved her book but for some weird reason I have stopped reading her books. Not because I don't like her books because I do love the books I have read, I guess I just haven't been into mystery and crime books lately.

I saw this one on NetGalley and since I haven't read any of Kathy Reichs books in a few years I decided to give this one a try.   Boy am I glad i did because I very much enjoyed this one.   Even though I am way behind in the series I was just a little bit confused but not very much.

It is very well written and like all of the books I have read by this author before I could very well imagine everything going on and all the characters.

I give this 5 out of 5.

Losing Control (Kerr Chronicles #1) by Jen Frederick *Review*

*I received this ebook for my honest review*

I’d do anything to keep my mother alive.

Anything, including ask Ian Kerr for help. I don’t know much about him, except that he has more money than some small countries. And he’s willing to spend it on me. Just one catch: there’s a string attached, and not just the one I feel pulling me into his arms and his bed. There’s also the plan for revenge he wants my help with.

Every time he says my name, it makes my body shiver and my heart stutter. I know he’s going to wreck me, know there won’t be anything left of me but lust and sensation by the time he’s done with me, but even though I can see the heartbreak coming towards me like a train, ready to crash into me, I can’t get out of the way. I want what he makes me feel. Want what he’s offering.

This may have started out as something to save my mother, but now…now it’s about what he makes me feel. I’m in danger of losing everything that’s important. Worse? Ian's whispered words and hot caresses are making me believe that's okay.

I don't usually read books like this that will make me cry or realistic fiction books but this book did sound interesting and once in a while I like to read books I don't usually read.

Anyway, I thought this book was a decent read. I enjoyed reading it and it is well written.  I liked the characters too.

I think it didn't really need to be a series. It would have been perfect as a stand alone.  No cliffhangers so if I hadn't already received the second book I would not have guessed it wasn't a stand alone.

It is hot but I didn't find it intimate.

I give this 3 out of 5.

This is now available on amazon.com

2015 Bookish Goals Update

Back in December I wrote a blog post on my 2015 bookish goals.  I was so excited and I was thinking to myself I could do those goals no problem.   RIGHHHTTT!!!!   So far it hasn't been going as well as I expected .

I was going to put my GoodReads goal for 2015 at 175 books to read but instead for some reason I only put it at 170.  I have no clue why but I did.  I am doing ok in this goal.  As I am writing this , I have read 91 books of 170 so far this year.  Not so bad but I am not doing as well as last year but we have had a lot of company stay over this year so I haven't been reading as much as I thought I would.

Read more books from my TBR pile.  Well, I did read more of them but most were books on my Kindle.  I do plan on reading more of my physical books.  So far from my Kindle books and my physical books I have read 18 books in total.

I was planning on doing a TBR pile of shame post but so far I haven't had the chance to do that because I have so many books on my bookshelves that I have not yet read and I believe it would be a pain to do since I have over 130 physical books and thousands of ebooks in my TBR pile. I do have a few special posts ideas I want to do in the future so keep an eye on those.

I wanted to read more classics.  So far that hasn't happened. I do have a few on my Kindle and hopefully I will have the chance to read one or two in the next few months but I don't have my hopes up because I do have many books to read and review for the next 4 months.

I have been doing book hauls most months.

My last goal was not to buy so many physical books. I have bought quite a few this year but not as many as last year so I am doing good with that. Plus I have given away over 30 books this year so I have more room on my bookshelves.

Did you make bookish goals for yourself for 2015?  If so are they going well?

Miss Emily by Nuala O'Connor *Review*

*I received a copy of this book for my honest review*

Eighteen-year-old Ada Concannon has just been hired by the respected but eccentric Dickinson family of Amherst, Massachusetts. Despite their difference in age and the upstairs-downstairs divide, Ada strikes up a deep friendship with Miss Emily, the gifted elder daughter living a spinster’s life at home. But Emily’s passion for words begins to dominate her life. She will wear only white and avoids the world outside the Dickinson homestead. When Ada’s safety and reputation are threatened, however, Emily must face down her own demons in order to help her friend, with shocking consequences.

This is a fictional story about the poet, Emily Dickinson, her family, and an Irish immigrant and servant in their home.

I have to admit I don't think I have ever read anything by Emily Dickinson but this book sounded interesting even though it isn't something I would usually read and because of those facts I didn't really expect I would like it so I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself enjoying this book and reading it all in one sitting.

It is a short but it moves along at a nice pace.I think it is perfect to read this on the patio or at the beach. It is a  great read that got me wanting to read some of Emily Dickinson's work.

I highly recommend this.

I give this 4 out of 5.

A Girl Undone (A Girl Called Fearless #2) by Catherine Linka *Review*

*I received a copy of this book for my honest review*

On the run with deadly government secrets, Avie must decide if she can live up to her name and truly become fearless for the cause or if it’s better to just give in.

The sequel and explosive conclusion to A Girl Called Fearless.

Having survived a violent confrontation with the US government, Avie is not out of danger. Both she and the young man she loves, Yates, have been declared terrorists, and Yates is hospitalized in critical condition, leaving Avie with the perilous task of carrying information that can bring down the Paternalist party, if she can get it into the right hands.

Forced on the run with handsome, enigmatic woodsman Luke, Avie struggles when every turn becomes a choice between keeping the two of them alive or completing their mission. With her face on every news channel and a quarter million dollar reward from the man who still owns her marriage Contract, Avie’s worst fears are about to come true.

This is the second book and final book in Catherine Linka’s A Girl Called Fearless series and I have to admit I had not read the first book .  From what I can tell , A Girl Undone picks up directly after the events of the first book but I was still able to follow A Girl Undone and I quite enjoyed it.  I do wish I had read the first book though because I have the feeling I would have enjoyed it as much (if not more) than this book.

It is a young adult dystopian book  that will keep you reading.  I ended up putting it down yesterday just to take a reading break but ended up picking it up again within minutes because I was just so into this book and wanted to know what would happen next.

I give this 4 out of 5.

I recommend this book.

Toxic by Kim Karr *Review And Giveaway*

* I received a eARC of this book for my hoonest review*

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not...

In Toxic, Jeremy McQueen, a sexy, intense, sometimes brooding entrepreneur goes after what he wants—the woman he left behind years ago. Phoebe St. Claire, a put together, in control socialite-turned-CEO has been drifting through life searching for something she thought she'd never find again—the right man to share her future.

Our passion was boundless. Our lust untamed. And our desire endless. He was the only man who ever made me feel alive. Then, I betrayed him.

When he reappeared, I didn’t question it. Trust rarely survives the wrecking ball, so when he let me in back in—I didn’t hesitate.

Maybe I should have.

What began as a bid to save my family business, turned into a second chance at love. It felt so romantic. Working together, side by side, with the man I loved. My dream come true.

Nothing is as good as it seems.

We had our issues, but then again, every couple does. It wasn’t jealousy, or our too-hot sex life that I should have been worried about.

It was his darkside.

I never saw the end coming, until it slammed me in the face. The question is—did he?

Was revenge his plan all along?

Sometimes you have to wonder if your life is too good to be true.
Is it real or just an illusion?
Does the man lying beside you really love you like he says he does?
If the answer is yes, you’re meant to live happily ever after.
If the answer is no, you’re living my life, and nothing will ever be the same.

What you do about it—that’s up to you.

Me, I’m in too deep and there’s no getting out.

I’ll take whatever I can get for as long as I can because I know when it’s over…

I’ll never find another man like him.

This is the first book I have read by Kim Karr and I have to say  is WOW!!! I liked this book so much that I added all her books in my to be read pile.

Toxic is well written and got me hooked from the beginning. It got me to keep reading this book so late because I couldn't put it down. I fell in love with the characters.

It is a hot and steamy standalone which seems to be rare these days.

I highly recommend this book.

I give this 5 out of 5.

Taming Lily (The Fowler Sisters #3) by Monica Murphy *Review*

*I received a eARC of this book for my honest review*

I’m in trouble. Again. And instead of facing my problems head on, I’ve run away. Far away this time, and no one can catch me—not my two younger sisters, Violet and Rose, not my father, my grandmother, or that witch Pilar who wants to take control of my family’s cosmetics company. Now I’m in Hawaii, enjoying the sun and the sand and water, where nobody knows the hot mess known as Lily Fowler. And I’m loving every minute of it.
But someone is watching me. Following me. He’s gorgeous. And soon we’re talking, and against all my instincts, I reveal bits and pieces of myself to Max. It feels good, though I know he can’t be the man for me. These sudden feelings we share are way too complicated, too fraught, too intense.
Then everything explodes and I’m forced to return home. My intentions have always been true, but now everyone’s mad at me. I don’t know who to turn to anymore . . . except to Max. He’s who I want to trust. But I’m not so sure I should. Maybe it’s worth the risk—and what-ifs be damned. . . .

I have read the other two books in this trilogy and I couldn't wait to get my hands on Taming Lily because I loved Owning Violet and Stealing Rose.

I had given both Owning Violet and Stealing Rose 5 stars but Taming Lily is my favourite of this trilogy.  I  loved Max and Lily's chemistry and how HOT  and steamy this book was.  I loved every minutes of it.

I admit that I didn't like Max at first because he is working for Pilar but a little bit into the story I started liking him.

If you aren't big sex in books then I don't recommend this because it is heavy on the sex but if you like books like this then I highly recommend this and this series to you.

I give this 5 out of 5

Taming Lily by Monica Murphy will be available online and in stores near you on July 7th 2015.
