Bio for author Edgar Allan Poe:

Edgar Allan Poe is a legendary American poet, novelist, short story writer, editor, and literary critic. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1809.

Edgar's parents, who worked as Shakespearean actors, died when he was a small child. He lived with his godparents in Virginia until they moved for a time to England, where Edgar attended school and fell in love with the poetry of Lord Byron. Later, Edgar was disinherited by his wealthy godfather and lived in poverty for much of his life. He survived on editing and writing gigs. He finally achieved success with “The Raven,” which was published in 1845.

Haunted by death, Edgar lost most of the people he loved, and he died mysteriously when he was 40 years old.

My thoughts

Ok so I admit I haven’t really read anything by Edgar Allan Poe other than The Raven but I have been wanting to read more so I thought this would be a fantastic introduction to his poems.

First, Little Owl House did a fantastic job with this book.  This book is gorgeous.  The illustrations are fantastic. Here is one illustration:

This book is a great way to start reading Edgar Allan Poe’s work because I don’t know about anyone else but I found classic literature can be daunting, especially for beginners like me. The illustrations helped me to keep reading this one.

I really liked the poem and now can’t wait to read more of Poe’s work.

I do highly recommend this to anyone 10 years and older and I do give this 5 out of 5.
